5 Questions for 2026

A Conversation with Sonya Rice, Executive Director

As we step into 2026, we asked Sonya Rice to share what God has been doing through Parkville Women’s Clinic. This year, our focus is on Building What Lasts — not just responding to immediate needs, but strengthening families and securing the ministry’s future for generations to come.

Q1: What stood out most from last year?

Sonya:
Last year was filled with milestones for which I am deeply grateful. Opening our new facility was a powerful moment — not just because of the building itself, but because it represents the faithfulness of God and the generosity of so many who believe in this mission.

In many ways, it marked the beginning of a new season of building what lasts — creating space where women, men, and families can find care, truth, and hope not just for today, but for the future.

Another highlight was launching our education program and strengthening connections with local schools. That work allows us to reach young people earlier, build trust in the community, and offer hope long before families ever find themselves in a moment of crisis.

We had so much fun with our Super Baby series, and our donors really responded. We saw more than $400,000 in year-end giving — a reminder that generosity truly is one of our donors’ superpowers!

Q2: What are you seeing in the families you serve right now?

Sonya:
Many women still walk through our doors feeling unsupported, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn. When our volunteers share the love of Christ and our medical team provides compassionate, accurate care, we often see a shift toward hope — the first step in building families that can truly last.

At the same time, the landscape is changing quickly. Today, more than 60% of abortions are self-induced through abortion pills, so many women are making decisions in isolation, often without medical guidance or support. We are seeing more women come to us seeking care, clarity, and compassion after taking the abortion pill.

All of this makes reaching women earlier than ever more critical — before fear, pressure, or misinformation shapes their decisions and their future.

Q3: What is the biggest priority for PWC in 2026?

Sonya:
Our priority is simple, yet incredibly important: Reach her first.

The data tells a powerful story. Eight out of ten women who go to Planned Parenthood choose abortion, but eight out of ten women who come to Parkville Women’s Clinic first choose life. Timing matters more than most people realize. When we reach her first, we do not merely change a decision — we begin to change a future for both her and her family.

That is at the heart of building what lasts: stepping in at the moment that shapes everything that follows.

Another priority, as always, is prayer. This year, we are inviting churches to adopt Parkville Women’s Clinic in prayer for one month in 2026. We provide a prayer guide, and each church activates as many people as possible to cover our ministry in prayer.

Q4: What is the biggest challenge the clinic faces?

Sonya:
In many ways, our challenge is also a blessing, since the ministry is growing faster than our unfinished space can currently support with ease.

Completing our remaining areas will allow us to fully utilize our gathering space, administrative offices, and boutique — giving our medical team and client advocates the space they were designed to have for care and connection. It is one of the most tangible ways we are working right now to build what lasts — ensuring our physical space matches the long-term vision God has given this ministry.

We are also looking to fully staff our medical team, so we would appreciate our donors sharing this opportunity with individuals who might be a good fit.

Q5: Will there be a 2026 gala?

Sonya:
We plan to continue focusing on individual and small group gatherings rather than one large gala. That approach has allowed us to invest more deeply in ministry and relationships and less in event production.

For us, that is another expression of building what lasts — prioritizing meaningful connections over one-time moments. I welcome anyone to arrange a tour with your friends or church family and watch for details about a couple of smaller events on the horizon.

What has been bringing you joy?

Sonya:
Our work includes some very heavy moments, but it also brings incredible joy. Recently, a former client invited me to her nursing school graduation, and seeing how far she has come has been so meaningful.

On a personal note, we are anxiously awaiting the birth of our second grandchild. Thinking about this new life in my own family has only deepened my love for this mission and my desire to help other families build strong foundations.
